Artist Statement for CONTINUUM :
I work with vintage textiles that already hold their own rhythm, grain, and history. Every piece begins with the presence of the original maker. I cut, stitch, and recompose these materials to find a new line inside what was handed down. The line is not only visual. It is a way of listening. It is a way of staying steady inside uncertainty and shaping clarity from materials that have lived full lives before reaching my hands.
This body of work was created during a time of pressure, recalibration, and shifting ground. Returning to these textiles allowed me to find focus when everything around me felt unsettled. The cloth itself carries a vibration that guides my decisions. I follow that vibration toward new structures that honor the past while forming a contemporary language.
These compositions hold the tension between what is inherited and what is chosen. They reflect the quiet architecture inside the fabric and the intentional lines I build from it. In this way, the work becomes a conversation between the maker who came before me and the maker I am now.
I am grateful to be showing alongside ceramic artist Sam Chung, whose vessels also emerge from historical forms. Our work meets in a shared respect for tradition and the desire to bring forward new expressions shaped by the past.
